The cardan universal joint is a mechanical mechanism responsible for transmitting the rotary movement that occurs between axles that are at different angles. The universal joint is a simple but robust mechanism, it consists of two fork-shaped pieces, which are connected to each other through a pin, this one in the shape of a cross. The ends of the cross are installed under pressure in the forks, so if the driving axle moves, it transmits the movement to the other axle, being able to generate an inclination of up to 45º.
There is a wide range of universal joints to satisfy all torques in different sizes.
There are several types of cardan universal joints:
- Needle bearing: This is a gasket suitable for high precision applications where little space and high torque are required. Induction hardening, grinding and polishing of components, combined with the insertion of the bushings into the forks, allows for greater precision and longer product life. Each component is produced in-house to ensure quality standards. This series guarantees maximum mechanical performance.
- Of high speed. Needle bearings and the high speed achieved are the main design features of these joints and transmissions. Suitable for applications where high speeds are required. Each component is produced in-house to ensure quality standards
- Double universal joints. This type of joint allows a 90º inclination. The cementing and hardening of the components of the central body allows a longer life of the product. Each component is produced in-house to ensure quality standards. This series meets market requirements and guarantees mechanical performance at a low price.
- Extendable with needle bearing for high revolutions. Assembled with universal joints. This type of universal joint is extensible and allows axial and longitudinal movement. Carburizing and hardening the core body components allows for longer product life. Each component is produced in-house to guarantee quality standards. This series meets market requirements and guarantees mechanical performance at a low price.
All universal joints are made of steel or stainless steel . They are treated with various types of cementation.
The applications of universal joints are very varied, used in the automotive and aeronautical industries, in short, in any sector where rotation movements must be transmitted at non-concentric angles.2
